Guild Wars 2 Guide: All races at a glance
In the online role-playing game Guild Wars 2, you choose one of five races. In this game guide we give you an overview of the peoples of Tyria.
Guild Wars 2: These changes are in the Race Guide
The second part of the Guild Wars series takes place about 250 years after the first successful MMORPG, and during this time there have been some drastic events in the fictional continent Tyria: The old dragons have awakened from deep sleep and are devastating the country. But the peoples of the role-playing epic also face new problems.
- People have lost the fight against the Charr and are now looking for a new home.
- The Norr also had to leave the icy north and are now in the process of asserting themselves in southern climes.
- The asura have been driven out of the earth and are beginning to populate the surface.
- A new breed - the Sylvari - has emerged from the Pale Tree and is now exploring Tyria.
- You can find detailed information about the Guild Wars breeds in the following paragraphs.
The Charr - vengeful warrior cats with a claim to world domination
The Charr race finds its destiny in war. As merciless as the feline hybrids are against their enemies, they are loyal to their allies: their company means everything to them, the Legion is their family. Her constant pursuit of war and expansion has made the Charr the most advanced military society in Tyria.
- As Charr you start in the Ascalon wasteland, which is dotted with military forges and industrial sites. Your journey begins in the Aschfurt plain, near the Black Citadel. The mighty Iron Legion rules over the country there.
- A charr is not made a warrior - he is born a warrior. Your career is also a military one: you can choose from one of three legions that are either dedicated to the construction of military equipment, intelligence or the battlefield.
- Your enemies are at least as dangerous as you are: On the one hand, ghosts roam the country that were conjured up with people in the last war. On the other hand, the renegade flame legion threatens to plunge the Charr society into chaos during the civil war. The old dragon Kralkatorrik flies above everything, just waiting to finally destroy Ascalon.
The Norn - brave hunters from the far north
The Norn are at home in the cold north, where no other Tyrian people could survive. These tall humanoids recognize neither states nor rulers: they are guided by nature, animal spirits show them the way. When the old dragon Jormag woke up from its sleep, they had to move to southern regions - but there they are not alone.
- The hunter people are now at home in the trembling mountains and set up camps on forests, rivers and wherever there is plenty of game. You start in the dangerous hiking hills, not far from the great hall of Hoelbrak.
- In the beginning, a norn chooses an animal spirit to watch over him. So you have the choice between the skill of the snow leopard, the community of the wolf, the power of the bear and the wisdom of the raven. Later in the game, you will even be able to transform into your animal spirit.
- In the Zitterberge Mountains, the Norn meet people who are reluctant to share their homeland. So the nomads have to assert themselves against shovelers from the ground and gigantic Jotun. The henchmen of Jormag, who covered the country with ice and snow, followed them from the north. But a norn is not afraid - even the greatest threat is just another challenge for him.
The people - in search of the glory of days gone by
The times of the people seem to be over - driven out of their homeland by the Charr and abandoned by the gods, they stumble when trying to assert themselves in Tyria. Since a tsunami, triggered by the awakening dragon Zhaitan, buried the former human metropolis Löwenstein among themselves, they have been looking for a safe bastion to breathe life into the heroic stories of earlier times.
- The last surviving people gather in the newly built Götterfels fortress and control the surrounding area of Kryta. You start in the fertile Königintal, not far from Götterfels.
- What will the hero look like who will lead people into a new age of glory? This question can be answered in a variety of ways: not only do you choose your social class - educated aristocracy, hard-working middle class or tough beggars - but also one of six gods who will accompany you.
- Götterfels is battered by social intrigues: the nobility secretly fights for the dominion of the city with the queen. This tension is exacerbated from the outside: bandits and wild centaurs devastate the fields of the poor farmers and put human fate to the test.
The Asura - little goblins with gigantic knowledge
Height is not everything - this is particularly true of the Asura in Guild Wars 2. As the smallest people in Tyria, they are the most progressive when it comes to technology, science and magic. They actually lived in the ground, but since they were driven to the surface by the herald of the old dragon Primordus, they have started to conquer Tyria - not with brute force, but with innovations and brains.
- Your journey begins as an asura in the wild jungle of Metrica, where the goblins have found a new home. From here, they flood Tyria with all kinds of inventions, such as travel portals and work golems. The center of the research is in Rata Sum, a gigantic, floating city in the form of a cube.
- The Asura race cultivates its spirit in colleges. Here you have the choice between an architect's career, a fiddly life as a hobbyist and theoretical research that plunges into the secrets of alchemy. Depending on your college affiliation, you can, for example, summon Golems or construct technologically sophisticated armor.
- Within the Asura people, the small geniuses compete in Krus - these are research organizations that strive for knowledge in peaceful competition. But not all Asura are immune to megalomania: the Inquestur-Kru is not only committed to limitless research, but also to conquer all of Tyria. Their unrestricted claim to rule over all peoples on the continent divides the intellectual elite of Tyria and provides ample explosive material for conflict.
The Sylvari - spiritual tree beings with many secrets
The Sylvari are the youngest inhabitants of the Guild Wars universe: They grew up out of the pale tree only a quarter of a century ago and are now beginning to explore the world around them and at the same time explore themselves. The plant people are connected to each other in a dream by a collective consciousness and discover the world on a deeper level than the rest of the Tyrian people.
$config[ads_text5] not found- The pale tree on the Stained Coast is a world in itself: its mile-wide trunk extends high into the sky and is home to numerous creatures. However, many Sylvaris are drawn to the wider world in search of spiritual knowledge. If you choose this breed, you start in the Caledon forest directly under the pale tree. However, your journey begins - like that of every Sylvaris - in a dream.
- The character of a Sylvaris is determined by the time of its awakening - for example, the tree people are open-minded and eloquent from the morning cycle, while Sylvaris, who wake up at dusk, are considered to be smart and thoughtful. Since the Sylvaris have an intimate connection to plant life, you can take advantage of this on your trip: During the game, for example, the Pale Tree itself can also be called for help.
- The Sylvari perceive the arrival of the old dragons very clearly in the dream, but they are also plagued by them in the physical world: So they have to assert themselves against Zhaitan's henchmen, who keep crawling out of the water and attacking the pale tree. Threats also lurk within the people: the Sylvaris of the Nightmare Court have given themselves to destructive thoughts in their dreams and are now trying to lure their fellows into the dark as well.
