Broken rubber in the mason jar: These tricks make it easy to open
There are a few tricks on how to open a mason jar when the rubber is broken. Turn, screw, knock - we show what really works.
Open the jar with broken rubber with a can opener
If the rubber is broken and the lid is tight, a can opener will help you.
- Place the glass on a non-slip surface. It is best to put a damp tea towel or wooden board underneath.
- Take a can opener and put the cutting part laterally between the glass and the lid. This is the part that you usually stick into the can lid.
- Use the can opener as a lever and press firmly outward until you hear a crack.
- The vacuum in the glass is now gone and you can open it easily.
- Alternatively, you can use a blunt knife. Use caution here so that you do not injure yourself.
Turn the glass over and knock
You don't need any accessories for this reliably working trick.
- Turn the affected glass upside down and hit the bottom vigorously with your hand several times.
- Then the lid can be opened. If it doesn't work the first time, repeat the trick.
- Use rubber gloves to open it. You have better grip and the hands do not slide away.
Use hot water
For stubbornly closed glasses, hot water is the solution to get the contents.
- Turn the jar upside down and hold the lid under hot water for about half a minute. You keep turning it in a circle.
- If this is too hot for you, put the glass upside down in the sink and let the water run.
- Turn the jar over again and open the lid. It is best to wear rubber gloves.
Use multi-purpose opener
The practical multi-purpose opener opens the lid in no time at all.
- The multi-purpose opener works with bottle caps, glasses, tubes and screw caps.
- The maximum diameter depends on the model, but is sufficient for all common mason jars.
- The opener is simply attached to the top of the glass and turned. Its leverage releases the stuck lid without effort.
