That's how good the Miracast dongle is: Microsoft adapter put to the test

Miracast dongle in a practical test: how good is the streaming adapter from Microsoft?
Under Windows 8.1 and 10, the connection with the Miracast dongle is quickly done - provided the right WLAN module is provided:
- First plug the Miracast dongle into the HDMI input of the TV or projector and also supply the stick with power via USB. A power supply is not included, but the power supply works without any problems with the USB input of the TV.
- To start the transfer, click on "Devices"> "Project" on the Windows start page of your computer.
- In the next step, select the display adapter and the corresponding display to mirror the image or to use the TV as a monitor extension.
Test result: Miracast from Microsoft with weaknesses in films
- The transmission quality is well suited for predominantly static content such as presentations. On the other hand, films - as is usual with Miracast connections - sometimes show clear artifacts due to image compression.
- Image and sound remain in sync. Due to the noticeable delay, the Microsoft adapter is not suitable for games.
Miracast with smartphone causes problems
In our test, we used the Nokia Lumia 1520, Lumia 930 and HTC One M8 (WP Edition) WP cell phones and encountered the following problems:
- Initially none of the devices wanted to establish a connection, although the Microsoft stick was recognized immediately. Only after a reset of the HDMI dongle did the transmission work here.
- Conclusion: As with PC mirroring, slight delays can be felt and image compression can be seen. Touch inputs can optionally be visualized on the TV. In addition to Windows Phone devices, the display mirroring of Android smartphones is also possible.
- There are now good alternatives such as the new Chromecast Ultra.
On the next page we show you many other ways to stream the PC screen to the TV.
