Maximum temperature in the office: From this temperature on there is no heat
There are also rules and laws in Germany for maximum temperatures in the office. In this article we explain everything you need to know about it - and when there is heat-free at work.
Maximum temperature in the office: From these degrees there is free
The so-called workplace regulation has clear rules for maximum temperatures in the office. Health must not suffer and the employer is obliged to provide aids. Technical rule A3.5 states:
- First of all, all windows and skylights must be shieldable - for example with blinds - to protect against direct sunlight.
- From 26 degrees Celsius: From this temperature, the employer must at least counteract the sun and thus the heat with reflective devices or darkened glass. Plants can also stand in front of the windows as sun protection.
- From 30 degrees Celsius: If the temperature rises to over 30 degrees, a ventilation or, at best, an air conditioning system must be available. But loose clothing and cool drinks can also be enough.
- From 35 degrees Celsius: Now a room is considered unreasonable for office work, the employer would have to provide appropriate protective clothing. However, this is usually too expensive and the office is usually closed without further ado. As soon as the temperature drops below 35 degrees, work can continue.
- People with reduced health or pregnant women can request appropriate measures at 26 degrees Celsius. Leaving the office must also be permitted.
- If the above rules are not complied with, you can lodge a complaint with the works council. Informing the employer beforehand about the elevated temperatures cannot hurt either - at least the working atmosphere remains pleasant.
