Do I have a sound card?
If you are not sure whether your PC has a sound card, you can easily test it. We'll tell you how.
Is a sound card installed on my PC?
Every computer that is already assembled has a sound card. This is just as elementary as a USB or internet connection. This is the only way to output music via internal or external loudspeakers.
- Only those who have put together their own PC or bought a used one may not have a sound card in the computer.
- If you find a hole on your PC or laptop in which you can insert your headphones and microphone, you also have a sound card. These holes are usually colored green and pink. These are usually 3.5 mm jack connections.
- To see if a sound card is installed, press the Widows button and "R" at the same time. Enter "devmgmt.msc" in the newly opened window and click "OK". The Device Manager opens, in which you will find the item "Audio, video and game controllers". Below this you can see the installed sound card (see picture).
- If there is really no sound card, it can be retrofitted via a module.
- If a sound card does not work, this may be due to outdated drivers. To do this, open the Device Manager as described above and right-click on the sound card. There you will find the item "Update driver software".
If you suspect that other drivers on your computer are not up to date, this practical tip will show you how to update them in one go.
