Locating a cell phone using the IMEI number - is that possible?
If your cell phone has been stolen or lost, you can use the IMEI number to locate it. But this only works under strict conditions. In this article we show you in which cases you can have your cell phone located.
Have your cell phone located using IMEI: you need to know that
The IMEI is a 15-digit number code that can be used to identify every cell phone. The abbreviation stands for "International Mobile Equipment Identity". You can find the number under the battery of the mobile phone, on the original packaging or via query * # 06 #. If your cell phone is lost or stolen, you can use IMEI to locate it. However, this is not easy:
- In order to be able to arrange the location, you must first report the loss of your cell phone. You can do this with the police or directly with your network operator.
- If you report the loss, you will be asked for the IMEI. Your mobile operator can then try to locate your cell phone using this number.
- In order for the location to be initiated, you must provide credible evidence that the cell phone has been stolen or lost. So it depends on your ability to convince and the kindness of the contact person.
- Furthermore, location is only possible if your cell phone is switched on, the SIM card is inserted and the cell phone is working in the network of your provider.
- If the finder or thief has inserted a new SIM card, left the country or switched off the network, location is not possible.
Instead of locating via IMEI, you can use the location services from Android, Apple or Windows in the future.
