Delete Hangouts from smartphone - is that possible?
If you want to delete your Hangouts account from your smartphone, unlike the iPhone app, this is not possible in the Android app directly in the app. In this practical tip, we explain what you have to do.
Delete Hangouts account from Android settings
On Android, there is no way to remove the account in the Hangouts app, since the general Google account is used here. You can delete this in the system settings from your Android smartphone. Take a look at our guide article "Android smartphone without a Google account - does that make sense?".
- Scroll down to the "Accounts" section.
- Tap on Google here.
- Then, under "Accounts", tap on your email address.
- You are now in the "Synch. Settings". Here tap on your menu key and select "Remove account".
- Confirm with "Remove account". Your Hangouts account has also been removed.
Delete the account in the Hangouts app on iPhone
- Sign out of Hangouts.
- Now tap "Just start" in the Hangouts app.
- Your account will now be offered for you to choose from. However, touch "Manage" in the top right corner.
- A red "Remove" button will appear next to your account, tap on it.
- Confirm with "Remove".
Remove the Hangouts app from your smartphone
If you want to disconnect not only from your Hangouts account, but from the entire Hangouts app, you can. On Android, however, only with detours:
- Since Google's "Hangouts" is permanently installed on Android, you cannot remove the app without root rights, but you can permanently deactivate it from ICS.
- However, if your Android smartphone is rooted, you can completely remove the Hangouts app with a special tool.
- iOS users have it a little easier: "Hangouts" can usually be uninstalled like other iPhone apps.
