Hard reset on Samsung Galaxy 3
Some errors on a Samsung Galaxy S3 can be fixed by a reset to the factory settings. We'll show you how to do the hard reset.
Reset Samsung Galaxy S3 to factory settings
- First open the "Settings" app on your Samsung Galaxy S3 in the menu.
- Navigate down here to the category "Backup & reset".
- Select the "Factory Reset" option and read the warnings.
- Confirm the process. Then the Galaxy S3 restarts. This may take a few minutes.
Samsung Galaxy S3: hard reset by phone code
- Alternatively, you can reset your smartphone using a phone code. To do this, open the phone app on the Galaxy S3.
- Enter the code * 2767 * 3855 # here and call it. The Galaxy S3 is then reset to the factory settings.
Samsung reset via bootloader
If your S3 crashes and no longer starts properly, you can perform a hard reset via the boot loader.
- Turn off the device by pressing the power button for about 8 seconds.
- Now press the [Volume Up] + [Home] + [Power] buttons simultaneously.
- In the bootloader, use the volume keys to navigate to [Wipe Data / Factory Reset] and confirm with [OK].
Note on hard reset
- Please note that a "hard" reset will delete all user data on your Samsung Galaxy S3 (settings, contacts, SMS, email, apps).
- The data on your SD card are not affected. You should therefore back up all data on your PC before a factory reset.
Tip: Dust off the Samsung Galaxy S6 now
The Galaxy S3 is already getting on in years and cannot begin to hold a candle to Samsung's new flagship, the Galaxy S6 (Edge). The successor shines with better performance, a curved display and many new functions. There is almost no change in price compared to its predecessors:
- The standard version of the Galaxy S6 with 32 GB currently costs around 400 euros. The more elegant Edge version with a curved display is available from around 500 euros.
- Is that too expensive for you? In our cell phone leaderboard you will find numerous smartphones at significantly lower prices, but which still beat the Galaxy S5 in comparison.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to backup your data and apps on Android.
