Record HD + programs: is that possible?
More and more TV channels are broadcast in high-definition HD quality - there are 20 channels on HD +. Recording and replaying HD + programs is not always possible. In these practical tips, we explain why HD + films cannot always be easily recorded and suggest an alternative.
Record via HD + receiver - theoretically possible
Technically speaking, nothing stands in the way of recording via an HD + receiver:
- You can easily connect an external hard drive with enough memory via USB to then save all your films and programs in high-resolution format.
- Of course there are also HD + receivers with an integrated hard disk, but these are a lot more expensive than receivers without integrated memory.
- Practical: If you have a storage medium available, you can pause the current program at any time and continue it later using time shift television.
HD +: Unfortunately, recording is only possible with restrictions
Unfortunately, recording does not work that easily in practice: Many private broadcasters ensure that the viewer or the "target group" does not miss their advertising. So it is often not possible to fast forward the recording on the HD + receiver. With some stations you cannot even record because it violates the copyright guidelines. The archiving of programs is also often blocked. Then you can only play your recording on the receiver itself.
Alternative: PC as HD + recorder
You can avoid this restriction by "converting" your PC to an HD recorder. This is made possible by a so-called digital-to-analog converter and a video recorder. Via an HDMI connection, you can record all HDTV signals on the hard drive of your PC and conveniently save and play them there. It works with the following devices:
- You can use the "HD Fury 2" as a digital-to-analog converter.
- A suitable video recorder for this is the "Hauppauge HD-PVR".
- Please note: Since numerous films and series have strict copyright laws, you may be entering a legal gray area.
