HDMI cable for 4K: you have to consider that
If your hardware supports 4K, you also need a 4K-capable HDMI cable to connect the devices. We will show you what you have to be aware of.
Buy HDMI cables: which cables support 4K?
- The HDMI cables are always divided into two classes. When purchasing, you have the choice between "Standard HDMI" and "Highspeed HDMI". Only the high-speed HDMI cables are able to deliver the desired speed. A standard HDMI cable is therefore not sufficient for 4K.
- It only becomes problematic at refresh rates of 60 instead of 24 hearts. Some high-speed HDMI cables could be completely out of order here. This is because the requirements for high-speed HDMI have changed in the meantime.
- Premium Highspeed HDMI has been solving the problem since 2016. This is not a new technique, just a new description. Premium high-speed HDMI cables are similar to high-speed HDMI. 4K with 60 hearts is guaranteed to be supported here.
- When purchasing, you will also find the names HDMI 1.0 to 1.4. These are the version numbers that were abolished by descriptions such as high-speed HDMI. Only version 1.4 cables are likely to support 4K.

The explanations above are summarized here again. You need one of the following cables for 4K transmission:
- High-speed HDMI cables always support 4K. Make sure in the product description that refresh rates of 60 hearts are also supported.
- Premium Highspeed HDMI fully support 4K. In many cases, however, the label makes the cables a little more expensive.
- Version 1.4 HDMI cables are likely to support 4K. However, there is no guarantee for this.
