Connect the HDMI cable correctly - how it works
With an HDMI cable, you can connect computers, consoles and DVD players to your TV. We will show you how to use the cable correctly and what you have to pay attention to when connecting.
Connect HDMI cable: you should know
- The abbreviation HDMI stands for High-Definition Multimedia Interface. This means that both picture and sound can be transmitted in HD using a cable. If you want to transfer content in 4K, you need one of the newer HDMI 2.0 cables. Similar to USB connections, HDMI devices can also only be correctly connected in one position.
- HDMI cables should not and should not be expensive. At Amazon you can find the cables in various lengths for just a few euros. More expensive cables do not give better results and usually do not last longer.
- HDMI cables will only wear out over time by plugging them in and out. If the plug is changed frequently, the service life is shortened. Do not roll up an HDMI cable too tightly and avoid kinking the cable.
Connect HDMI cable: that's how it works
- Modern TVs, BluRay players and home theater systems often have multiple HDMI connections. Which one you use is completely irrelevant, as a rule, the input marked with a 1 makes the most sense for the most frequently used device.
- Do not use force when connecting the HDMI cable to the device. Carefully locate the correct position and push the connector in with light pressure. If this does not work, you have not yet found the correct position or are holding the plug the wrong way round.
- If you want to connect your PC or laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable, there are a few more things to consider. Take a look at the following CHIP instructions.
