Extend HDMI cables - you have to be aware of that
If you want to extend an HDMI cable, there are a few things to consider. We will show you how the extension works and which tools will help you.
HDMI cable: This is how the extension works
- Depending on the device and cable, the transmission via HDMI works over 10 to 20 meters. The strength of the signal decreases steadily over the length of the cable. The better the cable and the HDMI chip in the device, the longer the cable can be.
- With HDMI cables, there is no loss of quality if the cable is too long. If the cable is too long, noticeable problems such as sound or picture hangers occur. With an HDMI extension cable or an HDMI extension you can usually reach a range of around 20 meters without errors.
- If you want to reach a range of over 20 meters, you can try an extension first. If you exceed the 20 meter mark, you should use an HDMI repeater that amplifies the signal halfway. This also enables distances of 30 to 60 meters.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to recognize the different HDMI versions.
