HDR10 - what is it? TV simply explained
HDR10 is the new standard that is built into devices by large providers such as Samsung or LG. This mainly affects televisions and screens.
- HDR stands for High Dynamic Range. The 10 behind stands for the depth of the bits with which the contrast can be controlled. Since normal content is only displayed with 8 bits, HDR10 has about four times as many brightness levels.
- This extremely high range of brightness levels adjusts the picture on the TV better to our viewing habits. The goal is to eventually achieve an image that looks similar to reality.
- If you have an HDR-capable television and are watching on this HDR material, the picture is much more contrasting and therefore has more real colors than if you were watching normal material.
- HDR is offered in almost all new models from Samsung, LG, Sony or Panasonic. When purchasing, simply make sure that the device supports this standard.
In the next practical tips, we will show you what HDR mode is for cameras and how to activate HDR on the PS4.
