Get married in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Here's how
In the role-playing game "The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim" it is possible for the first time in the TES series to marry another character or NPC. This option makes the game a lot more realistic and brings a fun change to the gaming experience.
General information about getting married in Skyrim
In Skyrim it is possible to have both heterosexual and homosexual marriage. However, you cannot marry a Khajiit or Bosmer character. The reasons for this are unknown. It is also possible to marry a merchant NPC: regardless of whether the partner is a merchant or not, the player can sell or buy items from him. You can also collect a total of 100 gold from your spouse each day.
Requirements for the wedding in The Elder Scrolls V
As is usual with role-playing games, you first have to activate the option to get married. For the wedding you need the amulet from Mara. You can access this item in three different ways:
- The amulet can be bought from the NPC Maramal for 200 Septime. Maramal is either in the temple of the Mara in Rifton or in the tavern "Zum Bienenstich".
- You can get it dropped randomly.
- You will receive it after completing the questline "The Book of Love".
Step 1: you have the amulet, what now?
It is important that you talk to Maramal about getting married no matter how you bought the amulet. The function will only be activated for the other NPCs after you have discussed it with him.
Step 2: Requirements of the potential partners
If you have spoken to Maramal about the wedding in Skyrim, the corresponding conversation option will be activated for all "marriageable" NPCs. But that alone is not enough: In order to propose marriage to NPCs, you have to wear the amulet and have already completed tasks or quests for your chosen one (s). Only then can you make an application to him / her.
Step 3: back to Maramal
If you've talked to the lucky one about your plans, go back to Maramal and talk to him about your wedding plans.
Step 4: waiting for the big day
If you have spoken to Maramal, you will have to wait 24 hours for the wedding ceremony to begin. Despite Maramal's advice, the time span for the wedding doesn't matter. When the time comes, you can confirm again during the ceremony and just a little later you live in a happy and everlasting marriage.
Skyrim marriage forever
There is still no way to separate yourself from your partner in the game. So think carefully who you want to marry!
Remarks:
- Characters for whom you have already completed quests during the game can come to your wedding as guests.
- If you missed the ceremony, you can go back to your partner and ask them to marry again. Then go back to Maramal, who will also consent again.
