Heroes of the Storm: the best tips
Blizzard characters fight for glory in the MOBA Heroes of the Storm. We have the best tips for you that will make your entry into the action-packed arena much easier.
Heroes of the Storm: General tips on the interface and the map
- Pay attention to the mini map, which always tells you where your team members are: You will receive information about all areas that you or allies can see. So you can often check the movements of your enemies with a quick glance.
- Pay special attention if no or only a few enemy characters are visible. This can mean that you will be overpowered immediately or that the opposing team wants to defeat a strong mercenary, for example.
- On some battlefields, there are neutral observation points that you can take to keep an eye on the surrounding area. Do this whenever it is safe to do so.
- The map also helps when completing a mission. For example, you can see on the ghost mines which skeletons are still available. If a group suddenly disappears from the map, you know that there was just an opponent here.
- Further information is available from the dot screen, which you can reach by pressing the [tab] key. Here you can see not only who leads and who is perhaps the greatest danger. On a second sheet you will also find information about the selected talents of all characters, which can reveal a lot about their playing style.
- This information is especially important if the opposing team has reached level 10 before you. In this case, it is important to know what skills you are going to have. In general, however, you should try to avoid team battles until your team has reached level 10.
- You should also communicate and disseminate information. A simple method is the ping system. Simply hold down the [Alt] key and drag the mouse in one direction, for example to ask for help or to communicate what your next goal is.
HOTS Tip 2: Weigh and Avoid Risks
- Familiarize yourself with your character and, if possible, with everyone else. You should be able to assess which situations you will survive and when you should better retreat - this looks very different for a Nova than for a Muradin.
- In general, however, you should almost always refrain from blindly chasing a badly wounded enemy because you are hoping for a simple kill. Too often his allies emerge from nowhere and simply turn the tables.
- This is less of a problem if you move around a lot in the team. Especially as support, you should stay with an ally most of the time, but generally well-coordinated team actions are usually more worthwhile than trying to win the game alone.
- This means that you spend less time fighting Minion waves than in comparable games. Of course, that can also be wise time, but don't neglect your team when it gets involved in a fight.
HOTS tip 3: shaft field missions have priority - mostly
An important difference between Heroes of the Storm and other MOBA games is the strong focus on the missions that each battlefield offers, and the associated many team battles.
- At the end of each round, a mission won - such as the clear upper hand in the skull hunt in the mines - can decide the game. And in general, missions also have a big head start.
- Accordingly, there is almost always a team fight when a mission becomes active. Pay attention to appropriate announcements.
- Most of the time, it is essential that you support your team and try to decide the fight for yourself. However, activating mercenaries or fighting your way to the opposing goal can also make sense.
- For example, if there is little chance of conquering the current curse in the cursed valley, spend your time differently.
- Alternatively, if the chances are the same, you can decide that you don't need the curse right now, for example because both teams have only one of three necessary points. A direct push can make more sense in this situation.
- For such a decision it is important that you have as much information as possible and that you can assess the consequences well.
