Cardiac massage: These songs save lives
In the event of cardiac arrest, a cardiac massage can save lives. In this practical tip we will tell you which songs in your mind's ear work best with the chest compressions.
Cardiac massage: that's why it's so important
Around 70, 000 people in Germany die of cardiac arrest every year. Quite a few of the deaths could be prevented by a cardiac massage.
- In the event of cardiac arrest, the first 5 minutes are crucial. If the organs are no longer adequately supplied with fresh blood, irreparable damage can occur, which can ultimately lead to death.
- Depending on the location, the ambulance service takes 8 to 12 minutes at best. With a cardiac arrest, however, this has been too long.
- After the emergency call, the chest compressions should be started immediately. Despite the first aid course, many no longer know how the massage works or are afraid of additionally injuring the victim.
- With the right song in your ear, you can't go wrong. How the Bee Jees and Co. save lives in an emergency can be found in the next paragraph.
Save lives with Helene Fischer: songs for the chest compressions
In addition to technology, heart pressure massage depends on the right speed. Sing along loudly or in your head with a song that has around 100 bpm (beats per minute). For each beat in the song, the chest is pressed down once, i.e. 100 times a minute. Just memorize one of the following songs for emergencies that you can sing along in your head. The chorus is enough for that.
- Bee Jees: Stayin 'Alive
- Helene Fischer: Breathless
- ACDC: Highway to Hell
- The Beatles: Yellow Submarine
- ABBA: Dancing Queen
Instructions for cardiac massage
If the patient's heart stops or is no longer breathing, you should alternately press the chest 30 times and ventilate twice. If ventilation is not possible or is too uncomfortable for you, the chest compressions are sufficient.
- Speak to the victim and shake them gently. Hold your ear to your nose and mouth to check your breathing.
- If you cannot find breathing, call 112 immediately or hand the task over to another person present.
- Kneel at the level of your chest next to those affected and expose your chest as best you can.
- Place the ball of one hand on the middle of the chest. Put your second hand on top and interlace your fingers.
- Now support your chest with your arms outstretched. Press your hands down quickly and firmly.
- The chest is relatively flexible. You should push in and let go about five centimeters.
- Now press into the chest with 100 to a maximum of 120 beats per minute. Use one of the songs above.
- Continue the cardiac massage until the emergency doctor arrives.
- Many helpers are afraid of damaging the chest. In the worst case, a broken rib can occur, but it heals again with little pain.
