A parked car can heat up very much during the heat in the summer months - seats and steering wheel almost burn the skin on contact and the air temperature in the car can hardly be endured. With a few tricks, however, you can make driving a little more pleasant in summer.
Simple tricks: prevent heat in the car
Heat in the car is not only uncomfortable, it can also increase the risk of accidents: extreme caution is required if the temperature affects the driver's circuit. However, you can take a few precautions to ensure that the temperature in the vehicle is more comfortable:
- Try to park in the shade. If this is not possible, park with the rear facing the sun so that the front area is protected from direct sunlight.
- If the steering wheel or the seats are very hot, you can prepare a damp towel or wipe it briefly.
- A fabric steering wheel guard or a fabric seat cover, if you have leather seats, for example, make the touch more pleasant.
- A windscreen cover not only protects against cold in winter, because the material also insulates against heat. Depending on the amount of sunshine, you can both keep the steering wheel and seats cooler and lower the overall temperature in the car somewhat.
Ventilate the car and set the correct temperature before driving off
If it is very hot in the car, you should regulate the temperature before you start driving. After all, the heat in the parked car can be up to 70 degrees Celsius. In addition, you should not have it too cool in the car:
- Open all the doors and windows of the car wide open. This trick works for some cars: hold the unlock button on your car key for several seconds so that all the windows open.
- Turn on the air conditioner after airing for a few minutes.
- Adjust the air conditioning to around 22 degrees Celsius. If you set them colder, the temperature fluctuation between the vehicle interior and the outside temperature could be too high and put a strain on your circulation.
You should avoid this in warm temperatures
Unfortunately, the car cannot always be perfectly tempered, especially on warm days. Then it is important to note the following:
- Do not leave children and animals alone in the parked car on hot days. Even a lowered window does not protect against a life-threatening heat shock. With a cold hot water bottle, you can cool children and animals while driving.
- You may be barefoot or wear sandals at the wheel - but if you are involved in an accident, you may be accused of negligence.
- You should not carry heat-sensitive spray cans in the car for a long time.
- If you need to store a pack of tablets, asthma spray or other medication in the car in an emergency, caution is advised: Many medications must not be stored at more than 25 degrees Celsius.
