Honey wine - this is how you prepare the recipe for honey mead
The mead not only plays an important role in mythology, but has also been manufactured by people for a long time. Here's how you can make honey mead yourself:
- To make mead you need a measuring cup, a large saucepan, a funnel and a thermometer. For the honey component, a kilo of honey, 1 teaspoon pure yeast, yeast nutrient salt (the quantity is stated on the package), half a liter of apple juice and two liters of water are added. This makes about three liters of mead.
- At the beginning, fill the saucepan with water and dissolve the honey in it. This is faster if the honey has been warmed up beforehand. Then the apple juice and yeast nutrient salt are added and the mixture is cooled to 20 ° C.
- Put the mixture together with the yeast in a bottle and close the bottle. The yeast bacteria begin to germinate at an ideal temperature of 20 to 25 ° C. The mixture should not be too warm, because the bacteria die from 28 ° C.
So it goes on with the fermentation
After filling the honey mead, it ferments and has to be filled properly afterwards. How to get your enjoyment of the mead:
- During fermentation, the bacteria convert the sugar into alcohol. It takes about two days. You can recognize the fermentation by the small bubbles that have formed. This happens because the gas escapes.
- Conversely, this means that you must not seal the container airtight. Otherwise there is a risk of explosion. While the mead is fermenting, you should shake it vigorously every day. The complete fermentation takes an average of three weeks.
- Once the fermentation has subsided, it can be bottled. This can be seen from the fact that the bubbles have stopped. Now there are two options: You fill the mead directly: The mead is still very cloudy, when filling these turbid substances will mix into the finished drink.
- If you do not want this, use option 2: Store the mead in a cool place until the cloudy matter has settled. Now you can fill the top clear part of the meter.
