Honor 8X: information about camera and equipment (sponsored)
With the 8X, Honor wants to build on the success of its inexpensive predecessors. That is why Honor gives its new smartphone a very special camera and lots of special equipment. We have summarized all information about the Honor 8X.
Honor 8X: dual camera for depth of field
As with the Honor View 10, the mobile phone manufacturer also uses two camera lenses on the back and one on the front of the Honor 8X. Technically, hardware and software were partially drilled out compared to the View 10.
- On the back, Honor uses a camera setup consisting of a 20-megapixel main lens with f / 1.8 aperture and a 2-megapixel depth-of-field lens. The latter enables a realistic-looking blur in the background, the so-called bokeh effect.
- The photos have a resolution of up to 5, 120 x 3, 840 pixels. The dual camera records videos in full HD (1080p) at up to 60 fps. 4K videos are not possible. The Honor 8X offers another exciting feature: With the appropriate settings, you can create chic slow motion videos and thus capture particularly fast objects in front of the lens.
- The front camera takes selfies with 16 megapixels and an f / 2.0 aperture. The latter, together with the software-based multi-frame image processing, ensures that as much light as possible is captured and that one's own portraits are ideally illuminated. The resolution of the images is up to 4, 608 x 3, 456 pixels; Videos can be recorded in full HD resolution at 30 fps.
Honor 8X: camera with artificial intelligence
The camera software of the Honor 8X has hardly changed visually compared to its predecessors. Technically, however, it comes with some exciting improvements and innovations.
- In particular, it offers a permanently integrated AI mode that recognizes over 500 subjects in front of the lens in real time and adjusts the camera settings accordingly. For example, if you shoot a landscape motif with different objects in the picture, the AI recognizes them and adjusts the coloring so that the motif is captured as best as possible. Even in difficult lighting conditions, the AI will help you: In night mode, the camera takes several pictures of the same subject and generates the best possible photo. This multiple frame technology is also used in HDR mode: here, too, the AI helps to improve photo quality.
- There are similar features in many other smartphones, but most models only optimize a photo with regard to one scenario. The AI mode of the Honor 8X, on the other hand, recognizes different elements within an image and adjusts the settings for individual parts of the image. For example, the half of the image with trees is optimized differently than the one with a blue sky.
- In the absence of an optical image stabilizer, you have to keep your hands particularly still when taking pictures. After all, AI mode also supports you here. For example, if you take photos at night, the Honor 8X automatically corrects blurred areas that are easily created when shaky shots are taken with little light.

Overview of other features of the Honor 8X
At around 250 euros, the Honor 8X is a comparatively inexpensive smartphone. Nevertheless, the hardware and equipment are impressive.
- Display: The Honor 8X uses a huge 6.5-inch display with 2, 340 x 1, 080 pixels (FHD +). This is otherwise only available in the much more expensive high-end class, such as the iPhone XS Max or the Samsung Galaxy Note 9. The display of the Honor 8X is almost borderless and only has a notch in the middle at the top - the so-called Notch.
- Performance: At the heart of the Honor 8X is a Kirin 710 with eight cores (4x Cortex-A73 with 2.2 GHz + 4x Cortex-A53 with 1.7 GHz) The CPU is supported by 4 GB of RAM. This means that even more complex games can be played without any problems.
- Storage: The Honor 8X is available with either 64 GB or 128 GB of storage. The storage space can be expanded by up to 400 GB using a micro SD card. Particularly practical: in addition to the memory card, the Honor 8X has space for two SIM cards. Unlike the Honor View 10, for example, you don't have to choose between the dual SIM function and the memory expansion.
- Battery: Long battery runtimes are the hobbyhorse of many Honor devices. The Honor 8X also uses a large battery with 3, 750 mAh. However, since it is not charged via QuickCharge via USB Type C, but rather traditionally via a micro USB connection, it only takes about 2.5 hours until the battery is full. But according to Honor, it should last longer than a day.
- Operating system: On delivery, the Honor 8X runs the current Android version 8.0 with its own EMUI 8.2 interface. An update to Android 9 Pie should appear in 2019.
- Design: The Honor 8X is available in black, blue and red.
