Change Hotmail password
In this practical tip, we will show you how to change your Hotmail password.
Hotmail requires a special security level
If you use Windows 8, your "Hotmail" address is usually identical to your Windows account and you only use one password. Since you can link your Windows account with other apps, such as "Skype", this password should be particularly secure. You can read about how to create such a password here.
Set a new Hotmail password
The easiest way to change your password from any device is via the browser. Simply go to the website. The picture gallery illustrates the next steps.
- Log in with your existing data.
- At the top right of the screen you will now find the name of your account. Click on this and then in the following dialog on "Account Settings".
- A new window is opening up. Select the "Password" sub-item on the left-hand side of the screen.
- Now enter your existing password and the new password twice. Before you press "Save", you can choose whether you want to be reminded to change your password every 72 days for security reasons. Clicking "Save" completes the process.
- Please note: If you are logged into Windows 8 with the "Hotmail" account, you must now always log in with the new password.
