HTC One M8: Change battery - how it works
Unfortunately, the battery of the HTC One M8 is very difficult to change. In our instructions, however, we will show you how to proceed.
HTC One M8 battery replacement: tools and notes
If you don't have two left hands, changing the battery is extremely cumbersome, but feasible. Laypersons should prefer to have the change carried out by a professional.
- To open the device and to remove components, you need a very small screwdriver with a Phillips head.
- A plastic tool is also required to lift components out. This has to be relatively narrow, if necessary you can also try it with a disused plastic card, such as an EC card.
- You should not use metallic devices. Even a barely visible scratch can damage the hardware and make the smartphone unusable. Always act with caution and patience.
- In the first step, a hair dryer can also be extremely helpful. However, it is not necessary.
- Tip: Place all components and screw them side by side. So you don't get mixed up when assembling and don't mix up screws.
Step 1: open the casing of the HTC One M8
Before you start the repair, you should switch off your smartphone. Also remove both SIM cards and their holders using the tool supplied or a paper clip.
- To open the HTC One M8, you first have to remove the two covers for the speakers. These are located on the front, above and below the display.
- Take the thin plastic tool in hand and place it at the top of the smartphone. Insert it into the gap between the back cover and the panel and gently pry the panel up until it comes loose.
- Remove the bottom cover in the same way. Slightly heating the panels can help with removal. However, do not hold the hair dryer too close to the screen. It should only be slightly warm and not hot.
- Now take the screwdriver and loosen all six screws. Put all components aside in an orderly fashion.
- To release the back cover, take the plastic tool and insert it again in the groove between the display and the housing. Pull the tool around the smartphone once and the back cover will come off. You shouldn't and shouldn't pry it out.
Step 2: change the battery of HTC One M8
- If you have opened the HTC One M8, you will see numerous silver foils on the left and right. Carefully loosen them all with your fingers or plastic tweezers. The foils usually stick to connection cables and can also stay there.
- Several plug connections are hidden under the foils. Small connections can easily be pulled out. You must first make wide connections accessible using a lever.
- The battery is below the mainboard. The mainboard is the large component in the middle, covered with a colored bronze foil. Loosen all the screws attached to the circuit board at the top and bottom.
- Now you can lift the mainboard slightly. You should be particularly careful here. If you forget a connection or a screw, it can be damaged.
- If the mainboard was removed, the next step is to simply remove the black rubber cover on the bottom of the smartphone.
- At the bottom of the smartphone you will see a slightly larger component to the left of the rubber cover. You can also easily remove this connection.
- The battery is now free of all connections. However, it is firmly glued to the housing. Here you need a robust plastic tool. Guide it under the battery and try to loosen it with gentle lifting movements. A lot of patience is required here.
Step 3: insert and assemble new battery
- You can now insert the new battery into the smartphone. Reconnect and put the screws back in place.
- You can then simply press the back cover back onto the smartphone. The two components connect with a slight pressure.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to activate extreme energy-saving mode on HTC One M8.
