HTC One M8 vs. M9 - smartphone comparison
HTC One M8 vs. M9: The two top smartphones from the Taiwanese manufacturer have a lot to offer and play in a league with Apple's iPhone or the Samsung Galaxy S models. In this practical tip, we show what has changed from the M8 model from 2014 to its successor M9 and where the development has stopped for the time being.
HTC One M8 and M9: Here the devices are on par:
There is a year of development between the two smartphones. However, HTC has left some key points unchanged.
- Design and display: If you look at both devices side by side, the difference is amazingly small. The basic design has undergone minimal changes. The super LCD display is still 5 inches in size and resolves in Full HD. Gold, silver and black are available as colors.
- The external dimensions have also remained almost the same. The newer One M9 is even slightly thicker than its predecessor. A SIM card in a particularly small nano format is required for both devices.
- The current Android 5 runs on both phones. A corresponding update was rolled out in January 215 on the older M8.

Where was the new One M9 developed?
Many changes are in the details and are rather minor. Nevertheless, they ensure that HTC's top model range remains state of the art.
- The M9's new camera stands out best: Instead of 4 ultrapixels, it now resolves with 20 megapixels and ensures sharper pictures.
- The internal memory has been doubled: 32 GB instead of 16 GB are now available. You can also expand the storage space with a micro SD card by up to 128 GB.
- HTC relies on the Qualcomm Snapdragon series for the processor: Version 801 was installed in the M8 - the brand new 810 in the M9.
- The RAM was also slightly upgraded to 3 GB in the 2015 model. Before it was only 2 GB.

Conclusion: Only minimal changes at a higher price
Although both HTC smartphones are state of the art, the update from the One M8 to the current model is a disappointment. Apart from the camera, HTC doesn't bring any real innovations, but only refreshes the device in some places. The previous model is currently more than 250 euros cheaper to buy. For most interested parties, the HTC One M8 should be the more sensible alternative.
