The HTC Vive is one of the most famous VR glasses on the market. We show you how the setup works in this practical tip.
HTC Vive Setup - Set the VR area
The HTC Vive can either be operated while sitting or standing. The more space you have for VR games, the better.
- The "base stations", which scan your position in the VR area, should be fastened in a raised position as the corner points of the rectangular VR surface, pointing along the diagonals of the rectangle.
- It is best to mount these on the wall using the wall brackets supplied with screws. Alternatively, you can also attach it to a cabinet, for example.
- However, the distance should not be more than 5 meters. The base stations should be at a height of around two meters.
- First screw on the wall brackets of the base stations and then turn them up.
- Lock them with the wing nuts of the wall brackets. Then align the base stations correctly by loosening the rotating ring on the wall bracket. The angle should be about 30 to 45 degrees vertically.
- Also clear the entire VR area so that you don't trip over various objects later.
install a software
First go to the HTC page with your web browser and download the HTC Vive setup software. You may need to choose whether you have the HTC Vive or HTC Vive Pro HMD.
- The installer automatically installs the Vive software and the latest version of Steam.
- If you don't have an account there, you can create one on the Steam homepage.

Connect the base stations to your sockets using a power supply. One should now display a "B" and the other a "C". If not, press the button on the back.
- Next, connect the two base stations with the supplied sync cable and press the station "C" to set it to "A".
- Next connect the power supply of the headset to a socket and connect it to the "Link Box". The Link Box is also connected to the PC with a USB and an HDMI cable.
- Now plug all cables of the headset into the orange sockets of the Link Box. To use the controllers, start them by pressing and holding the on / off button.
- Click on "Launch Steam VR" on your computer and choose whether you will move around the room or stay in one position.
- In the setup wizard you will now be asked to either show the controller on the monitor or to lay it on the floor so that the system can correctly capture the area. This completes the setup.
