For some time now, waterproof smartphones have been almost standard. Water is also no longer a problem for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
Is the Huawei Mate 20 Pro waterproof?
If you study the specifications of smartphones in detail, you will inevitably come across the IP protection class. This indicates the degree to which the smartphones are dust and waterproof. With its IP68 certification, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is considered waterproof.
- The first number in IP68 certification indicates the level of protection against dust. The number 6 means that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is completely protected against dust.
- You can see the water resistance of the device from the second number. The number 8 says that the Huawei Mate 20 Pro can stay underwater for up to 30 minutes without being damaged. It also remains sealed up to a water depth of 1.5 meters.
- The IP68 certification is the highest value that can be achieved during certification.
Waterproof is not the same as waterproof
The IP certification is awarded after a long series of tests under laboratory conditions. These conditions differ from those in everyday life - often completely different factors are used here. Therefore, the IP protection class is not a real guarantee.
- When one speaks of “waterproof” on a smartphone, it is always related to fresh water. The certification therefore does not apply to salt water.
- Water pressure plays an important role. The deeper the device is in the water, the more pressure there is on the smartphone. However, pressure also comes from movement. Therefore, you should avoid water sports of any kind with the Huawei Mate 20 Pro.
- The certification only applies to a completely intact device. If the smartphone is already slightly bent or the screen is cracked, the device may also no longer be waterproof.
- Another important point: protection doesn't last forever. Over time, the seal wears out and the Huawei Mate 20 Pro is no longer waterproof. This protection cannot be renewed.
- Despite certification, many manufacturers therefore give no guarantee on the device in the event of water damage.
