Due to its unibody housing, it is not easy to change the battery on the Huawei P9. This practical tip shows you how.
Change Huawei P9 battery: the materials
In itself, changing the battery is not really difficult, but 45 minutes should be planned for it.
- You need the following tools to replace them: 1x Phillips screwdriver, 1x Pentalob P1 screwdriver, 1x suction cup, 1x pick, 1x steel spatula, 1x spudger, 1x tweezers You can buy all of the above tools from iDoc.
- Alternatively, you can use the iDoc tool set straight away.
Change Huawei P9 battery: Removing the old battery
To then insert a new battery into the device, the old, defective battery must first be removed from the Huawei P9.
- To do this, first switch off the device.
- Also remove the SIM card slot.
- Next, use the pentalob screwdriver to loosen the two screws on the lower frame of the device.
- The next step is to open the display. To do this, start with the suction cup in the bottom of the same, pull it up and at the same time slide the pick between the display and the housing to separate them. Now you should be able to fold up the display very easily, but you must make sure that the fingerprint sensor is still connected to the board.
- To loosen these two components, take the spudger and hook under the spot on the top right edge where a brownish wire unraveled. Then you can finally remove the display.
- You can then remove the battery step by step. To do this, first use the spudger to disconnect the battery contact on the upper right edge of the housing.
- Two screws appear underneath, which you can loosen with the Phllips screwdriver. You can then remove the free metal sheet, which is hooked into three places, making this step relatively difficult. Using the tweezers, you should be able to loosen the sheet metal on its left and right ends and on the middle part.
- Now you can use the spudger to separate the contact above the battery and the contact between the lower board and the main board.
- Then it's time to release the camera. To do this, unscrew the two phliiips screws, which are located to the left and right of the camera. The screws hold a plate under which the contact for the camera is located. With the tweezers you can now remove this too.
- The contact for the rear camera is located directly under the camera, which you also separate from the main circuit board and then remove together with the camera.
- Then use the spudger to remove the control buttons on the left edge of the frame. Then grab the spatula, hook between the frame and the plastic buttons and carefully remove the adhesive so that you can remove the control buttons.
- Underneath there is another screw that holds a plate under which the display contact is hidden. Remove the screw, remove the sheet and use the spudger to loosen the display contact.
- In the middle and upper right area of the device there are now two more screws that also have to be unscrewed. Then you can remove the main board by placing the spudger on the upper left corner, pushing the board up and then removing it from the device.
- To remove the battery, the two adhesive strips must first be rendered harmless. To do this, fold the battery contact to the left and release the two gray tabs that are now visible using tweezers. Then you can simply pull the two strips by the tabs away under the path, as slowly as possible so that they do not tear.
- To remove the battery, start at the top right corner, push the battery up until it is almost vertical, and remove it.
Change Huawei P9 battery: insert the new battery
Now you can insert your replacement battery into the device.
- To do this, take the battery, insert it into the frame provided for the battery and press it firmly so that it sticks to the device.
- Then you can reinsert the motherboard. You should take care not to pinch any of the contacts exposed above the battery under the circuit board. You should first place the board in the lower left corner and then press down on the right side until it clicks into place. Finally, fix the board with the previously removed screws
- Then connect the display contact to the main board again. Insert the removed metal sheet over this, which you first hook on the right side and then press down. Here, too, you have to tighten a screw again.
- The control buttons can now be connected to the device again. To do this, press the plastic buttons on the outside of the device and connect the contact to the main circuit board.
- Place the main camera in the recess provided, press it down firmly and fasten this contact again to the main board. Place the previously removed sheet over the contact, which you hook on the left, then on the right and then fix with two screws.
- Then first connect the connection contact of the lower board to the main board, then the contact of the battery with the same. You also place a metal sheet over these two contacts, which you fasten with two screws.
- The antenna cable can now also be connected to the main board again.
- Before you put the display back in the case, you have to connect the fingerprint sensor again. You put the display itself on the upper edge and then fold it down.
- You can now tighten the screws loosened at the beginning on the lower frame.
- Finally, reinsert the SIM card carriage into the device.
