Hugh Jackman confirms his last Wolverine appearance
So he is not immortal after all. After Wolverine 3 and then 17 years, Wolverine star Hugh Jackman hangs his claws. He had indicated this a month ago via Instagram, among other things, and has now confirmed it on a television appearance.
When asked about a possible end to his Wolverine career, he replied: "This is it, this will be my last Wolverine. [...] It just seems the right time for it and if I'm honest: 17 years? I would never have thought that it would go on for so long and I'm so grateful to the fans and for the chance to be able to play [Wolverine]. I love it and I have a rough idea of what we'll do in the last part. And it works like the perfect exit. "
So far, no title or plot ideas are known for Jackman's last Wolverine appearance. Filming is scheduled to begin in early 2016 and the film will be released in cinemas on March 3, 2017.
Hugh Jackman: Grown with Wolverine
Wolverine was one of Hugh Jackman's first major roles in 2000. The role also made him a favorite with fans of the X-Men and fueled his film career.
Since then, he has been an essential part of six of the seven X-Men films released, two of which, like Wolverine 3, have even put special focus on his anti-hero. In the seventh film he had a guest appearance. Because no X-Men film is complete without Wolverine.
Another (guest) role as Wolverine is also under discussion for "X-Men: Apocalypse", which will be released in 2016. The last appearance in Wolverine 3 will follow in 2017 as announced.
Wolverine after 2017?
So far, no official statement about the future of Wolverine beyond 2017 is known and of course there is still no discussion about a potentially new face two years apart. Jackman has also discussed exit ideas in the past and rejected them, or at least put them into perspective. Although the statement sounds very final this time, it could well be that he changes his mind until 2017.
