Horns in towns and cities - you should know that
The road traffic regulations distinguish between horns in town and out of town. You can find out here whether you can honk at the next football World Cup or get upset with other road users.
Horns in town: these are the rules
The traffic regulations call horns as a sound or warning sign. Anyone who uses this incorrectly can face a fine. Every car must be equipped with a horn. The following rules show you when it is allowed to use the horn:
- It is strictly forbidden to honk in a closed village.
- If there is a hazard, such as a right of way, it is allowed to honk. They thus signal a dangerous situation.
- You must not bother your fellow human beings with sound signals, otherwise you will have to pay fines.
- The fines amount to five to ten euros per violation.
- During the World Cup and at weddings, the police often turn a blind eye unless you overdo it.
These regulations apply to horns outside of town
The rules of the traffic regulations for sound signals hardly differ inside and outside of towns:
- Just like in town, you can honk if there is a risk in traffic.
- In addition, you can indicate your intention to overtake by honking. You should do this before overtaking.
- In both cases, the following applies: You must not use horns to create a dangerous situation by scaring other road users.
- Here too, the fine is five to ten euros
