ICE and IC: these are the differences between express trains
The Deutsche Bahn express trains differ not only visually, but also in other ways.
- The Intercityexpress, ICE for short, is much faster than its older brother IC, which is called Intercity. The ICE reaches speeds of up to 300 km / h, the IC 200 km / h.
- You can already recognize the trains by their shape. The ICE has a pointed muzzle and it consists of a complete train unit .
- On the other hand, you know that it is an IC if the wagons are variable and the train has one or more tractors .
- ICE tickets are more expensive than ICs because the trains are also a lot more comfortable and faster.
- ICEs, for example, have more choice in the on-board restaurant and, since 2017, a WiFi connection and a portal through which you can watch films.
- Because of their speed, ICEs use high- speed routes such as Hanover-Würzburg and others. The IC serves important cities outside of these routes. This train also goes to cities like Karlsruhe.
- The IC has been around since 1971 . At that time, the train was only first class and therefore very comfortable. The second class was added in 1979.
- At that time it was still new that these trains ran every hour . They were also the first block trains, with the first class, the dining car and then the second.
- The ICE has only been in service since 1991 . Since then there have been different models of this train, each with a different level of comfort and speed. These are still in use today.
