iCloud: Maximum number of accounts reached - so you solve the problem
ICloud will send you the error message "Maximum number of accounts reached" if you have already created three Apple IDs on your iPhone or iPad. In this case, you can contact Apple Support - but there is another, not quite intuitive solution.
iCloud: Maximum number of accounts reached - how to fix the error via Mac
Unfortunately, it doesn't help to create the Apple ID on another device and then log in to the affected iPad or iPhone. The error message is still displayed. If you have a Mac at hand, you can solve the problem in five steps:
- Create the Apple ID using the browser. Instructions can be found here.
- Create a second user account on a Mac. To do this, open "System Settings"> "Users & Groups". Click on the lock below and enter your password.
- Select the "+" at the bottom left. Then enter any name and password in the new window and click on "Create user" (see picture). The following settings are irrelevant. You can simply delete the user later.
- Then select the new user from the list on the left and click on "Set ..." after "Apple ID:". Now log in with the previously created Apple ID.
- You can then set up your iPhone or iPad as usual. The error message no longer appears.
To delete the user on the Mac, select the user and click the "-" at the bottom left. In the next window, select the third option "Delete user" and confirm with the button of the same name.
Tip: Before you sell your iPhone or iPad, you should always delete its connection to iCloud. Here we show you how to do it.
