iCloud spam on the calendar: you can do that
Spam calendar notifications are currently driving iCloud users crazy: event invitations bring annoying advertisements to the calendar and land as push notifications on the Mac desktop and iPhone. Spam advertising also appears in photo releases and reminders. Apple doesn't have a solution for spam. Therefore, you have to resort to various tricks.
iCloud spam: that's the reason
- For some time now, spammers have been sending targeted appointment requests with advertising to iCloud email addresses. If the iCloud address is linked to Mac and iPhone or iPad, the advertisement is even displayed as a push notification.
- If you see the spam entry in the calendar, you can choose "Accept", "Maybe" or "Reject". Under no circumstances should you click one of the three options.
- The senders of the spam mail try to find out which iCloud mail is actively used. If you respond and choose one of the three options, the sender receives a notification. Then you will receive a lot more spam mails in the future.
Remove iCloud spam from the calendar
- If you find a spam calendar entry, do not tap "Maybe", "Accept" or "Decline" under any circumstances. "
- Instead, tap on the blue "Report advertising" link above.
- This will report the spam to Apple and it will be deleted from the calendar. Apple is also likely to extend this advertising reporting feature to reminders and photo sharing.
Remove iCloud spam: alternative solution
You can also remove the appointment invitation manually without the sender noticing. The easiest way is to move the appointment to a new calendar and then delete it immediately:
- Open the Calendar app, tap "Calendar"> "Edit"> "Add" at the bottom.
- Now enter a name - for example "Spam" - and confirm with "Done" (see picture).
- Now look for the spam appointment in the inbox and then tap on "Calendar".
- Now tap on the newly created spam calendar and repeat these steps with all spam appointments.
- If all spam appointments are in the spam calendar, you can delete it: Switch back to the calendar view and then tap on "Calendar"> Info symbol next to Spam calendar> "Delete calendar".
Remove iCloud Spam: More Methods
- Removing spam appointments is a little easier with the Fantastical 2 app. Again, the sender is not notified.
- In the iCloud web app, you can set all invitations to be forwarded by email instead of being directly included in the calendar.
- In iCloud, open the Calendar app and then the gear icon. Under "Advanced" activate the checkbox "Send by email to _" and finally confirm with "Save".
- You must also switch off the "Events found in apps" option in the calendar settings on the iOS devices.
iCloud: spam in photo sharing and reminders
While there are good ways to escape spam with the iCloud calendar, it is difficult with photo sharing and reminders:
- Reminders: The only way is to completely turn off the reminders in iCloud settings.
- Photo sharing: Again, you can only disable photo sharing completely to escape the spam wave.
- However, you can deactivate the push notifications under iOS for the photos: In the Settings app, under "Messages"> "Photos"> check "Show contact information" (see image).
On the next page we show how you can add individual email addresses to the spam filter so that you at least no longer receive spam from this sender.
