Create ICO file in Photoshop - Here's how
Photoshop can also be used to create ICO files, i.e. icons for your system. We show you how to do this.
Install Photoshop plugin for ICO files
Although this professional Photoshop software can do almost anything, ICO files have not yet been created. You can easily retrofit the function:
- To do this, download the free plugin. It is available for both Windows and Mac from CS2 to CS6.
- In Windows, copy the "ICOFormat.8bi" file into the "C: Programs / Adobe / Adobe Photoshop CS6 / Plug-Ins \ File Formats" folder.
- On the Mac, on the other hand, move the "ICOFormat.plugin" file to the "Macintosh HD / Applications / Adobe Photoshop CS6 / Adobe Photoshop CS6.app/Contents/Required/Plug-Ins" folder.
- Then restart Photoshop.
Create ICO file with Photoshop
If you have copied the plugin into the Photoshop folder, you can make your own icon:
- Create a new document. However, note the icon sizes of 16x16, 32x32, 64x64 or 128x128 pixels. Depending on the desktop resolution, you should choose one of the square sizes.
- Once you have created the icon, you can save it as usual under "Save as". In the save window, simply select the ICO format.
