In the office, eye, head and neck pain is not uncommon. The main reason for this is usually the wrong monitor distance, but posture also plays an important role. We'll tell you what to look out for to prevent these problems.
The right distance to the computer screen
- The distance between your eyes and the monitor should be at least 50 cm. 60 to 100 cm are usually recommended.
- However, the distance also depends on the size of the screen. Smaller 15-inch screens can also be 50 cm. From 20 inches it should be at least 70 cm.
Positioning the monitor, posture and other tips
- The screen should be positioned so that your gaze goes slightly down when you look at it. In this way you not only protect your eyes, but also your neck and back.
- If you work with a laptop for a longer period of time privately or professionally, an additional keyboard can provide more distance and thus relieve your eyes.
- The screen should also be as straight as possible in front of you. If it is turned slightly so that you have to constantly tilt your head or upper body to the side, you will develop an unhealthy posture in the long term.
- It is optimal if the windows and the lighting also run parallel to your line of sight. So your eyes are not strained. Poor lighting is often a cause of eye and headache that is rarely noticed.
- Even if it is often difficult: a correct posture at the workplace is extremely important for your well-being. People love to sink into soft office chairs. Therefore, position the backrest as upright as possible so that you adopt a straight posture to prevent back pain.
