IKEA return: You have to be aware of this
Ikea once attracted a lot of attention with a lifetime return guarantee. It didn't take long for the Swedish furniture store to row back. Now you can only return furniture under certain conditions.
Return at Ikea - These rules apply
Between 2014 and 2016, Ikea granted a lifelong return policy. Even used furniture could easily be returned. After that, the furniture store restricted the return, so that it was only possible within a year.
- A new right of return has been in effect at Ikea since September 1, 2018. You may not return any used items within the 365-day guarantee .
- The only exception are mattresses . You can still return mattresses to Ikea within one year, even if they have been used. However, children's mattresses are excluded.
- The following applies to all other products: Ikea will only take back new, unused goods within the 365-day return guarantee. You do not need the original packaging for this.
- This means that furniture can also have already been set up. It is important that they show no signs of wear . In most cases you can then return the furniture in the assembled state.
- However, if the goods have been damaged during transport, for example, Ikea may no longer take the article back. In any case, you should be prepared for a reduction in the refund.
- Therefore, make sure to pack and stow the goods properly so that they cannot get scratches or the like while driving.
- You also need the receipt or the invoice for the return. Receipts made of thermal paper fade quickly, so you should make a copy immediately after purchase, for example in the form of a photo.
- Some items are generally excluded from the return guarantee. This includes items from the IKEA treasure trove, green plants and goods that have been specially tailored to you . This can be worktops or fabrics.
- According to Ikea, the original lifelong guarantee will be restricted again at the request of environmentally conscious customers .
- According to Ikea, 90 percent of customers return their goods after two to three months at the latest . According to the company, there is hardly any need for a longer right of return.
So you can still use the lifelong return guarantee
If you bought your furniture while the lifetime return guarantee was in effect, you can still use it now.
- If you bought the goods between August 25, 2014 and August 31, 2016, you can return them at any time, even if they have already been used.
- In any case, you need the receipt or the invoice . The return of cut articles, green plants and treasure trove items is excluded.
- If your used furniture is not covered, you may be able to return it to Ikea Second Chance. Ikea buys back around 1, 000 products that have been used but are still very well preserved .
