iMac: upgrade RAM
Mac OS X is a RAM-hungry operating system - upgrading the RAM on an iMac is also quite simple. In this practical tip, we explain how you can equip your iMac with additional RAM.
Install new RAM in the iMac
Except for the 21.5-inch iMac model, which you unfortunately cannot upgrade yourself, the procedure described below is the same for all Apple iMacs.
- Before you start working, disconnect your Mac from the electrical outlet.
- After pulling the plug of the iMac, you will see a button with which you can open the flap directly above the plug.
- Now you can see the RAM modules already installed and the slots that are still free.
- With the help of the lever on the side you can easily access the working memory.
- Tip: Before you buy the new RAM modules, you should check which RAM is already installed - you should only ever pair the same RAM bars. You can find RAM compatible with Mac here.
