iMessage: Remove email address as sender
If there is an email address in your iMessages as the sender instead of a phone number, you can remove it to avoid annoying confusion. We'll show you how. Tip: You can also use the following instructions to delete an old email address that you no longer use.
Remove email address as sender from iMessage
By default, when the iMessage service is activated, you can also be reached at the email address that you use as your Apple ID. With just a few steps you can limit the availability and the sender to your telephone number:
- Open the "Settings" on your iOS device and scroll to the "Messages" item.
- Tap the "Send & Receive" entry. Here you see an overview of all numbers and addresses under which you can be reached at iMessage.
- Deactivate the desired email address entry under "You can be reached with iMessage at".
- Under "Start new conversations from" select your phone number. The email address should no longer be selectable anyway.
Remove email address from iMessage by logging out
If your phone number as the sender is deactivated and greyed out under iMessage, this trick will help you to remove your email address as the sender:
- Open the "Settings" on your iPhone or iPad and go to the "Messages" entry.
- Under "Send & Receive" tap on the entry with your Apple ID. In the pop-up click on "Unsubscribe".
- Under "You can be reached with iMessage at" your phone number is now grayed out but activated. Test whether your iMessages now reaches your contacts with the telephone number as the sender.
