Without atmospheric music, every film is only half as exciting! This practical tip explains how you can easily add background music to your projects in iMovie.
iMovie: Add background music using drag and drop
In iMovie, it is child's play to back up your own films with the right background music: You simply drag and drop the desired title into your project ...
- Open the iMovie iMovie project where you want to add the music.
- Then search for the music file for your film in the Finder.
- Drag and drop the file into iMovie and place it in the gray area behind the last clip of your project.
- Your background music is now inserted at the beginning of your film and shown with a green block in the project window.
- If your film project is longer than the inserted music title, you can add additional titles by drag and drop by repeating steps 1 to 3.
Adjust background music in iMovie
- To change the start and end point of the background music, click on the small gear wheel at the front end of the inserted piece of music and select the "Trim clip" entry from the drop-down menu.
- Now move the start and end point of your piece of music in the event window until you are satisfied with the result.
- Finally, click "Done" at the top right of the event window.
- Now it's time to invite friends and provide popcorn.
