Take photos indoors in low light
Depending on the type of camera you use, there will be different scope for indoor photography. In general, you are best served here with a digital SLR camera, because practically all settings can be made manually.
- For example, when you take pictures of people, you need fast shutter speeds to freeze their movements. This can happen in several ways:
- Exploit the possibilities of the camera: Set the f-number as small as possible and increase the ISO value. However, only go as far as is actually necessary. Because the larger the ISO value, the more noisy the image.
- Use fast lenses: The maximum open aperture and thus the possible shutter speed depends on the lens used. A real insider tip among amateur photographers is the inexpensive 50mm 1.8 lens, which is offered by Canon, Sony and Nikon.
- Use flash: Even if the light from the flash brings an unnatural mood of light, it is sometimes the only alternative in dark surroundings. This is always enough to capture moments without great artistic demands.
If you have no moving elements in the picture, you should consider using a tripod. In this way you can achieve the best quality results.
- If the camera is firmly attached to a tripod, you can easily work with a slower shutter speed of several seconds.
- Set the ISO of the camera as low as possible and increase the f-number (for example to f / 8). So you get a very low-noise and consistently sharp image.
