Ingress: create mission - how it works
In Ingress, you can not only complete missions of other agents, but also create them yourself. We'll show you how it works and what requirements you have to meet.
Create an ingress mission
In order to create a mission in Ingress, you must already have reached level 8 and have verified your account via Google+:
- Visit the Ingress Mission Authoring Tool website.
- Click on "SIGN IN". If you have not yet reached level 8, you will unfortunately be denied access at this point.
- First choose one of three mission types: Sequential (Visible), Sequential (Hidden) or Any Order. Option one shows agents which waypoints they have to process in which order. Option two only shows the first waypoint. All others must be identified by clues and sought out in a specific order. With option three, agents see all waypoints, which they can then edit in any order.
- Once you have selected a type, enter the basic data for your mission: Give it a name, optionally a description and a symbol. In the description you can, for example, indicate how long the mission is and what level of difficulty it has.
- Now it is time to set the waypoints: First, show the area on the map in which the mission is to take place. To the right of the map you can enter search terms (e.g. a portal name or a street) to find suitable waypoints. Waypoints can be portals, but also field trip points.
- Click on the desired item in the search result list to see its description. If he says yes, click on "Add Waypoint". Tip: You can also use waypoints multiple times, as long as they have a different purpose each time. Incidentally, the first waypoint must be a portal.
- Set the waypoint objective: "Hack this Portal", "Install a Mod on this Portal", "Capture or Upgrade this Portal", "Create Link from Portal", "Create Field from Portal" or "Enter the Passphrase" ".
- Optionally, provide a description for the waypoint. For hidden missions, you must also leave a note about the next waypoint.
- In this way, set at least four waypoints. There is no limit to the number of stations.
- Once you have selected all the waypoints and provided them with objectives, you have to look at the mission again in the overview. Only then can you submit them for review. Before submitting your mission, however, you should make sure that your waypoints and the mission itself meet all criteria. You will find these in the next two paragraphs.
Notes on the waypoints of an ingress mission
- The objectives "Create Link from Portal", "Create Field from Portal", "Capture or Upgrade this Portal" and "Install a Mod on this Portal" require that the portal be of its own color. If you decide on one of these objectives, the portal should be visible beforehand. In this case, do not use hidden missions.
- For hidden missions, it makes less sense to give directions. A bad or wrong GPS signal can be misleading here. Instead, use street names and intersections.
- If you use "Enter the Passphrase" as your objective, you can specify several answer options to make it easier for agents to solve the quiz. This also gives foreign-language players the chance to enter the correct answer.
Criteria for good ingress missions and reasons for rejection
An overview of all mission criteria and possible reasons for rejection can be found on this page. Here we only show you the most important points:
- You may not include your agent name in the mission name.
- You must not use images or text for the mission that you do not have the rights to.
- You may not use URLs, email addresses, or HTML code.
- Texts must not be offensive or provide information about the identity of agents.
- Images must not show people.
- All waypoints must be safely accessible.
- Your mission has a particularly good chance of being approved if you follow a popular topic - such as city exploration, fitness or historical relevance.
- Accurate and particularly informative descriptions also ensure good chances of success.
- Images make a mission more attractive.
Of course, it is especially fun when you go on a mission with other people. For example, you can also help agents you invite to gain experience points faster. This means you can get the coveted recruiter badge faster.
