If you don't have ginger at home or are allergic to it, there are some spices that you can use as a substitute. You can find out here what these are and what you need to consider when dosing them.
Replacement for fresh ginger - ginger powder
If you just have a problem that you don't have fresh ginger in the house, you may find ginger powder under your spices.
- The taste does not change with the dish.
- Instead of a tablespoon of fresh, grated ginger, season with a quarter teaspoon of ground ginger.
Sharpness even without ginger
Ginger ensures sharpness in the dish.
- You can achieve this sharpness just as well with cayenne pepper. Here, however, you should be careful in the dosage. A pinch of cayenne pepper is usually sufficient.
- Another alternative is turmeric. Again, you shouldn't use the same amount as stated in the ginger recipe. About half is sufficient.
- You can achieve a taste similar to ginger with the same amount of cardamom.
