Ginger - a miracle root?
Does Ginger Ale tell you anything? Literally translated it means "ginger beer" (ginger = ginger, ale = beer). But not only this delicious lemonade is made from ginger.
- The ginger (Zingiber Officinale) is a spice plant from the tropics and subtropics. So far, where this root really comes from is unknown. It is cultivated in Vietnam, Australia, Japan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia and France, among others.
- Ginger has an aromatic smell. The root owes its pungent and burning taste to gingerol. It also contains essential oils and resin acids. But the vitamins and minerals contained in ginger also make it a perfect companion in healthy everyday life. And this root can do even more.
- You can use the root to flavor dishes such as chicken, soups, salads, or sauces. Ginger is also a valuable addition to desserts such as milk rice or gingerbread.
- Ginger in the form of ginger ale and as an addition of the root can be found in teas or coffee. Its effect on sweat production is highly valued in hot countries.
- Fresh pieces of ginger (ginger nuts) in syrup are a real delicacy in China. Ginger in vinegar (Gari) is usually served in Japan between the many sushi courses. But ginger is also on the menu in all other sushi restaurants.
One root - many healthy effects
Ginger is not only very effective in the kitchen, but also a useful medicinal plant in medicine. It is available in different forms. In addition to the pure root, which is sold in the supermarket, ginger is also available as a finely ground spice or as a capsule in the pharmacy or drugstore.
- The sharpness of the ginger stimulates the appetite and at the same time promotes digestion. Gingerol also helps against pain and is therefore even used for the therapeutic treatment of joint pain. The root also works against travel sickness and vomiting. So you should always have some ginger with you when traveling.
- The high vitamin C content not only keeps you fit in winter and strengthens your immune system. It also helps build the connective tissue and has a positive effect on the metabolism. The absorption of iron is also promoted by the vitamin C contained in the ginger.
- And in addition to the vitamins, ginger also contains iron, magnesium, calcium. The effects of these minerals and trace elements lie particularly in regeneration and healing. Magnesium becomes relaxing and anti-inflammatory, participates in muscle building and increases your performance. Iron as a trace element is particularly important when transporting oxygen. And the calcium is used to build up hard tissue - i.e. the bones and teeth.
