Inkscape: Create a gradient
The free vector graphics program Inkscape offers you a lot of functions and possibilities. This practical tip shows you how to create a color gradient and then edit it.
Create a gradient in Inkscape
Inkscape lets you fill any object you create with a gradient.
- To do this, you must first select the desired object.
- Then click on the "Fill and Contour" option under the "Object" item in the menu bar.
- Now you can select the "Gradient" icon on the right side.
- After that, two white dots should appear in the object, which are connected with a line. If you move the points with the mouse, you change the direction of the gradient.
- You can now also change the color of the selected section. Either you use a color model for this, for example "RGB", in which you can set the strength of the individual colors exactly. Alternatively, you can also use the "color wheel".
- To work with more than two colors, click the object again and then click the Edit Gradient icon.
- Now there is another menu bar at the top of the screen. In this click on the point "Insert new stop".
- You can do the same with the newly appearing point as with the others.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to crop images in Inkscape.
