If you use an international keyboard on your iPhone or iPad in addition to the German one, you can save yourself a lot of time and nerves. Anyone who uses their iPhone in German uses a keyboard by default, on which the key assignment differs from that of a conventional computer keyboard. With these few settings, it's much easier to type on the Apple device.
Add international keyboard on iPhone
To save time, or for habitual reasons, using two different keyboards in different languages can be extremely convenient.
- Open the "Settings" app on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
- Select the "General" menu item there.
- Scroll down and click on "Keyboards".
- Below you will find the item "Keyboards" again.
- There you can now click on "Add keyboard" and select another keyboard, such as the English one.
- If you have done this, a small globe appears on the bottom left of your keyboard (see picture). If you click on this, you can now switch back and forth between the German and the English keyboard.
Set different keyboards of one language
It is also practical to use two keyboards in the same language. So you no longer have to hold the vowels for umlauts, just press the globe to change the keyboard (see picture).
- Go back to the Settings area of the keyboards.
- Now click on the German keyboard. Here you can choose between several variants of the letter assignment under the item "Software keyboard layout".
- For example, if you select the first item "German" and the second "QWERTZ", you have activated the globe button next to the space bar.
- Now click on this, switch back and forth between the normal German iPhone keyboard and the classic PC keyboard.
