This practical tip shows you how to reset Internet Explorer to its default settings.
Reset Internet Explorer to factory settings
- In Internet Explorer, click the small gear icon in the top right to open the settings.
- Select "Internet Options" here and follow the "Advanced" tab.
- Scroll down to the "Reset Internet Explorer Settings" item. Now click on the "Reset" button (see picture).
- Place a checkmark in front of "Delete personal settings" and confirm with "Reset".
- After restarting Internet Explorer all settings are reset to standard.
Reset IE with Fix It tool
If the solution described above does not work, you can alternatively use the Microsoft tool "Fix It", which can be downloaded here for free. It also contains components for IE with which the most common problems in Internet Explorer (incompatible add-ons, performance problems) can be fixed.
