Internet Explorer: Limit download speed
Especially with a narrow DSL line, it is useful to be able to limit the download speed of Internet Explorer. This practical tip explains how this works with the "Netlimiter" program.
Limit the download speed in IE with the Netlimiter
- Download the "Netlimiter" and install it on your computer. Make sure that you download the appropriate version (32-bit or 64-bit) for your PC.
- Then restart your computer so that the installation can be completed.
- Then open Internet Explorer and Netlimiter.
- The entry "Internet Explorer" now appears in the list of the Netlimiter.
- Click on the numerical value in the "DL Limit" column. The default is 5120.
- Then a dialog window opens. Now select the maximum download speed that Internet Explorer should get.
- Check "Enabled" and confirm your selection with "Save".
- If you download a file now, it will never be downloaded faster than the speed you set. This gives your other applications more bandwidth.
