Internet Explorer: Change character encoding
If Internet Explorer does not correctly display some letters such as umlauts or special characters, you must change the character encoding. We'll show you how to do it.
Change the character encoding for web pages in Internet Explorer
- If you tap the [Alt] key on your keyboard, a menu bar appears at the top.
- Select the "Coding" under the "View" category.
- The coding "Unicode (UTF-8)" is recommended for German websites.
- Alternatively, you can select the "automatic selection" or another coding under "More".
- If you have selected an option, IE automatically loads the current website in the new coding.
In the next practical tip, we will show you how to restore the deleted history in Internet Explorer.
