Very slow internet speed test
Whether on YouTube, an important software download or even browsing your vacation photos in the cloud - a slow internet connection is annoying everywhere. Below we explain what you can do about it:
- DSL was the ultimate in the 00s. The standard was replaced by VDSL in the 10s. Download rates of up to 500, 000 MBits per second, also known as VDSL 250, are now available in Germany. Use the CHIP speed test to check whether the booked Internet speed is at least VDSL 25.
- If the internet line is slower than VDSL 25, you can find out on the website of various providers whether a faster internet line is available at home.
- If your internet remains slow, you should contact your provider. In further practical tips, we will tell you how best to proceed at Kabel Deutschland and Telekom.

Chrome: delete offline content
Called up websites are first downloaded from the browser before they are displayed in the browser. The larger the offline cache of the browser, the slower the browser reacts. Below we explain what you can do about it:
- First try to delete your browser's cookies. Perhaps too many have accumulated here and are now slowing down the PC.
- However, it is sufficient to delete only the images and files in the browser. Because if the cookies are no longer available, then you have to log in again on the individual websites if the function Remember login is available.
Check router
- In order to use the full Internet speed, the router must be compatible with the Internet line. Nowadays, DSL lines that support ADSL 2+ are required for DSL lines. Other standards are ADSL and VDSL2. The type of your modem is shown on the back of the modem. The Router FAQ website contains lots of useful information about the routers and offers links with firmware updates.
- A simple router restart can also solve the problem. You can also try unplugging the router for around ten seconds.
Windows Specific
- The driver for the network card may be faulty or out of date. So look for the appropriate driver and download it.
- Then open the Control Panel and Device Manager. Search for the network card here and right click on it.
- The context menu appears. Select "Update Driver" and then "Search for driver software on the computer"> "Select from a list of device drivers" and> "Disk". There you then select the previously downloaded file.
