iOS 10: Taking screenshots while streaming is no longer possible - that's why
In iOS 10, you can no longer take screenshots while streaming in many apps. The picture just stays black. We explain in our practical tip why this is no longer possible and which apps you can continue to take a snapshot with.
Screenshots no longer possible under iOS 10
- As of iOS 10, Apple prevents screenshots of copyrighted content. This affects all apps that use video content with Apple's encrypted HTTP Live Streaming (HLS) technology.
- This includes all films from iTunes, but also Netflix and Sky.
- If you take a screenshot via the home button and the power button while streaming, only a black image is saved in the photos.
- Alternatively, you could previously take screenshots via Quicktime under MacOS if you connected your iOS device to the Mac. This is no longer possible.
Take screenshots anyway - how it works
Even if Apple does not allow screenshots of protected material on its iOS devices, you can still take screenshots under MacOS Sierra. This is also possible without problems on the computer.
