iOS 10: Restore Slide to Unlock
Slide to Unlock still exists in iOS 10 - you just have to restore it yourself. With the update to iOS 10, the feature (in German "swipe to unlock") is only hidden. With a few profound changes in the system, you can bring the old lockscreen mechanism back to the iPhone and iPad.
iOS 10 Lockscreen: "Slide to unlock" / "Swipe to unlock"
- In order to restore "Slide to Unlock" on iOS 10 devices, you have to intervene deeply in the system. There is no simple function for this in the Settings app.
- Instead, you need to change a file in the iOS software. However, this can also have side effects: Some users report that after the change, Touch ID would no longer work. The following instructions are therefore expressly at your own risk.
iOS 10: Retrieve "Slide to Unlock"
To get "Slide to Unlock" back, you have to modify the iTunes backup file:
- First, disable iCloud backup and create an unencrypted backup using iTunes.
- Now you need the free tool "iCopyBot". After the installation start the program.
- In the program window, look for the folder path "/ System Files / Home Domain / Library / Preferences".
- Here you will find the file "com.apple.springboard.plist". Click on it to edit it.
- Add the following two lines after the header:
- SBEnableDashBoard
- Now you have to play the modified backup on your iPhone / iPad again and then restart the device.
- The old lockscreen with the usual "Slide to Unlock" function then appears again automatically.
Without deeper settings, you can at least unlock the iPhone a little easier with the following instructions.
