Activate and deactivate iOS 12 screen time: Here's how
With iOS 12, a new feature comes to your mobile Apple device, the screen time. This article shows you how to activate and deactivate this function. We also explain how you can use the screen time.
iOS 12: How to enable and disable screen time
You can find the new feature under Settings.
- So open the "Settings" on your Apple device and scroll down a little to the point "Screen time".
- If you tap this point, you can activate the screen time on the next screen. Here you can either limit certain applications or see how long you have been using certain apps.
- If you would like to deactivate the screen time later, you can return to the desired feature on your iPhone via the "Settings".
- To do this, tap the "Screen time" item again. In the following screen, scroll all the way down to the "Deactivate time" screen. If you tap on it, the function is switched off.
Screen time under iOS 12: You can do that with it
The function of the new iOS 12 feature can be divided into two areas.
- On the one hand, you can use it to monitor the use of different apps, on the other hand, you can limit the times for use.
- You can use the various statistics for monitoring, which are listed after activation of the screen time.
- You can see here how long apps have been used by you. The usage time for the current day or the entire past week is shown graphically.
- The individual apps that you used were also displayed under the general statistics. Tap on one of these apps and you will see the times at which you mainly used these apps. You can also see how much time you have spent in total on this app.
- If children use the iOS device, a time limit for the use of the various applications can be useful. If you have set the time limit to half an hour, for example, the app will be blocked after this time. In order to be able to continue using the applications, you must first enter this lock with a pre-defined unlock code.
- You can either set a time limit on how long an application can run. Alternatively, you can define time-outs. During these times, an app can only be started if you enter the unlock code.
- Tip: Use the screen time limit so that your children do not play endlessly with the iPhone, then do not choose the same code as the lock code that they use to unlock the iPhone. The children usually know that and can easily avoid the time limit.
