iOS 7.1 - jailbreak still possible?
As of iOS 7.1, the jailbreak on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch should be over. We will explain how much truth there is in the report.
iOS 7.1 - does a jailbreak still work?
With the release of iOS 7.1, numerous security gaps in Apple's mobile operating system have been closed.
- After the previous updates from iOS, the developers of evad3rs needed some time to create the latest jailbreak. This usually took a few days to a few weeks.
- Apple closed the security hole in iOS 7.1 that allowed access to the jailbreak for iOS 7.0. A jailbreak for the beta 3 of iOS 7.1 has already been published, but the security vulnerabilities in this beta version have not yet been corrected.
- Since the hacker community has always found a back door with the previous iOS versions, one should be able to assume that a corresponding jailbreak will be available soon after the release of iOS 7.1.
- However, the head of evad3rs has already announced that there will be no jailbreak for iOS 7.1. If you find a new vulnerability for a jailbreak, you will prefer to use it for a jailbreak for iOS 8, which is announced for autumn 2014.
- If you want to continue using your evasi0n jailbreak, you must not update to iOS 7.1. There will be no jailbreak and a downgrade is only possible for the iPhone 4. For iOS 8, however, the evad3rs can be expected to jailbreak again.
- Update: At the end of June 2014, the Chinese hacker group Pangu released a jailbreak for iOS 7.1. It appears to be working and virus free. However, some experts advise against jailbreaking, primarily because of the unknownness of the developers. For more information on pangu jailbreak, see this article.
